Artist Notes
We are lucky to be surrounded by meadows, pastures and hayfields. These open areas are precisely the habitat the meadowlark needs to survive, especially since they nest on the ground. Urban development and changing farming practices have had a devastating effect on the meadowlark population in the Midwest. As soon as it warms up in the spring you can easily spot them on posts, fences or flying low across the meadow. They are such an integral part of the landscape here, I decided I better make a painting of him!
