Artist Notes

You may wonder why I painted a birdfeeder filled with sparrows; why not paint some colorful cardinals or goldfinches?  While I love the stunning colors of many songbirds on my feeders, the sparrows are thoroughly entertaining to watch.  They are a tight family, and each one of them tries to boss the others around.  They chirp loudly, fight each other for food, take quick baths at my birdbath and sometimes rest for a moment, shoulder-to-shoulder before starting all over.  While the sparrows are having a difficult time in the Netherlands they are thriving here in the U.S.A., in fact I need to turn up my radio they’re so loud!
